How to Get Ready

Step 1: Prepare for Our Chat

The call works best when you arrive with a few things already in mind. Before we speak, take ten minutes to jot down:

  • What’s creating the most pressure right now – in governance, operations, fundraising, or strategy
  • What you’ve already tried, and what hasn’t worked
  • What a good outcome from this call would look like for you

You don’t need polished answers. Rough notes are fine. We’ll structure the conversation from there and ask the right questions to get to what’s actually going on.

Step 2: Watch "Don't Waste Your Time Running a Charity"

Before our call, watch this video on the five things every charity needs to get right early – strategy, governance, branding, fundraising compliance, and systems. Most charity problems are not funding problems, and you’ll start to see which patterns might be playing out in your own organisation.

Step 3: Check Your Tech

This is a video call, so make sure your mic, camera, and light are working. This session usually takes about 30 minutes.

Essential Tools for Running Small Charities Effectively

While you wait for our call, it’s worth having a look at our toolkits, guides, and frameworks. They’re the same tools we use with charities we work with directly – built from 15+ years inside the sector, priced so small charities can actually use them.

A few that founders, trustees, and CEOs reach for most:

  • Charity Growth Diagnostic – work out where time, money, or momentum is being lost, and what needs attention first
  • Your First 90 Days as a Trustee – what the role actually means in practice, how to read board papers, and which questions matter
  • Trustees Meeting Minutes Template – a structured Word template that captures what the Charity Commission expects to see, without making the form feel heavy
  • Why Charity Boards Fail – recognise the patterns that quietly weaken boards before they start causing damage

Worth a look before we speak – you might spot something that’s already on your mind.
